Στις 9 Ιουνίου 1821 απαγχονίστηκαν στην Κωνσταντινούπολη από τους Οθωμανούς Τούρκους, κατά τη διάρκεια των διωγμών που ξέσπασαν μετά την έναρξη της Ελληνικής Επανάστασης, οι Άγιοι μάρτυρες Μητροπολίτες Αδριανουπόλεως Δωρόθεος, Θεσσαλονίκης Ιωσήφ, Τυρνόβου Ιωαννίκιος και Δέρκων Γρηγόριος.
Η θυσία τους αποτελεί λαμπρό παράδειγμα πίστεως, αυταπαρνήσεως και αγάπης προς τον Χριστό και την Ορθοδοξία.
Άγιοι μάρτυρες του Χριστού, πρεσβεύσατε υπέρ ημών!

Le 9 juin 1821, à Constantinople, les Saints Martyrs Métropolites Dorothée d’Andrinople, Joseph de Thessalonique, Ioannikios de Tirnovo et Grégoire de Dercos furent pendus par les Turcs ottomans au cours des persécutions qui éclatèrent après le début de la Guerre d’Indépendance grecque.
Leur sacrifice demeure un exemple lumineux de foi, d’abnégation et d’amour pour le Christ et l’Orthodoxie.

On June 9, 1821, in Constantinople, the Holy Martyr Metropolitans Dorotheos of Adrianople, Joseph of Thessaloniki, Ioannikios of Tyrnovo, and Gregory of Derkoi were hanged by the Ottoman Turks during the persecutions that broke out following the outbreak of the Greek War of Independence.
Their sacrifice remains a shining example of faith, self-denial, and love for Christ and Orthodoxy.
